How to Lead with Kindness in All that You Do

The world is a polarizing place now more than ever. With a global pandemic, various political views, different values and cultures all around the world, agreeing with everybody’s opinions is nearly impossible. The great thing about the world we live in is that there are so many unique perspectives and ways of life, and no two people are the same. It’s time to embrace our differences and lead with kindness as we go out into the world. Check out these ideas to ensure you’re always putting kindness first.

Open Your Mind to Differing Views

The reflex when you hear differing points of view may be to try to argue them or express your point of view. Instead, open your ears to listen and try to put yourself in that person’s shoes. When you meet the opinions of others with kindness and respect, they’ll be much more likely to do the same when it’s your turn to express your opinions and viewpoints.

Stand Up for Those in Need

It comes back to the saying, “If you see something, say something,” which has come to also be applicable to bullying or instances of wrongdoing. There will come a time when you will be a bystander to somebody who needs those around to speak up. Use your voice for those who may not be able. Step in when you can to help those around you and lead with kindness.

Volunteer in Your Free Time

Volunteering is the perfect way to spread kindness. It comes back to doing good in the world, while expecting nothing in return. In actuality, you’ll get so much out of volunteering. Doing good can release endorphins and overall has shown that it makes people happy, all while making a difference. Find an organization that you would like to support and spend a free afternoon lending your talents to help make the world a better place. This is the ultimate way to lead with kindness!

Do Something Nice for a Stranger

It’s true that a little kindness goes a long way. Something that is sure to boost mood is when the kindness is unexpected. Take the time to talk with a stranger the next time you’re in a public place. Give a compliment. Pay for a meal in a drive-thru line for somebody behind you. Stand just a little bit longer to hold the door open for somebody. It doesn’t have to be a huge act of kindness. Remember, a little goes a long way!

Give Back

If you’re able to give financially, it’s a great option to support the future of your favorite organizations. Make sure to ask about how your funds will be used to ensure you’re giving back to the certain programs or aspects of the organization you care about. While monetary contributions are great, there are plenty of other ways to give back that don’t cost you anything.

You may have various household items that are worthy of being donated to organizations in need. Many nonprofits will have a wishlist of items they need that are relevant to their cause. This could range from canned goods to warm clothes or even household items like toilet paper or paper towels. Find an organization’s wish list and see what you already have that you could donate.

How will you lead with kindness? There are so many ways you can put your best foot forward in the world. Wake up each and every day asking yourself how you can spread kindness in the world. Before you know it, kindness will be all around you. Together, we can make a difference!
